Steps to Learn a Garment in a Professional way

  Dear Angel.. 💝

Today I am going to share the proper steps to be followed to learn any garment and Stitch like an Expert in the category of Dos & Don't. Anyone who follows these 5 steps can develop her/himself as an expert in a very short period.

💙  I welcome you to my Blog with my whole Heart💝 For a better view on Mobile, please click View Web Version at the bottom of the page to avoid transparency of the background image. If the Script is clearly visible then continue reading..

If you wish to learn from us you can visit & connect through our Landing page, the Website mentioned, or through this below link 👇💙

                            http://wa.me/918925623300?text=WishtToLearn

Learning a garment includes these 5 steps.

Step No. 1

💙   (a) Take the body measurement of the person for whom you make the dress. Not readymade measurements, customized measurements. Measurements are the root of doing any outfit. If even an inch is wrong, the total dress may get wasted and may not be eligible for wearing. So learn to take proper measurements.

💙   (b) Should make some sketches to record and to refer to in future. Most of the women in the previous generation would have gone to tailoring institutes. But the reason for them not being able to recall what they have learned is that they didn't record what they went through.

💙  (c)  I have seen many people having project notebooks with the miniatures of all the garments they learned. But truly said it is not needed at all. My sister went to a sewing class for more than a year and has all the miniature books, but not able to start a business or stitch up to the level. I learned practically from qualified masters and was able to run the sewing business successfully for more than 15 years.

💙 (d) Should have successful formulas to derive calculations for that particular size. Every tailor has his/her own formulas to construct a garment. The one who knows the accurate, perfect formulas would be successful in the field. Those who don't know or have will become a failed product. Instead of running through free stuff better learn from an expert and start shining as soon as possible.

My Dad's ways of using Leftover Fabrics

Step No. 2

💙 (a) Before starting cutting the fabric should make some drawings in your record notebook. No need to practice on Pattern Sheets or Newspapers. Because those cannot be maintained for a long time. And remember, Masters in the boutique don't use papers. They just cut on fabric directly but since you are a beginner, to avoid wasting the fabric you can do it in your notebook which will help you to recall even after many years.

💙   (b) Should know about the fabrics you have to use to make that garment. Because fabric knowledge is a must to make any garment pleasant and comfortable. Also, you should know the exact fabric consumption otherwise it will lead to a waste of money. I have seen people who are just 5 feet in height buy 3 meters of fabric to make a normal kurti just because the shopkeeper said they need it since they are XXL in size.

Step No. 3

💙   (a) Spreading the fabric according to the actual requirement. Here we have to analyze the Print, the designs, and motives and check whether they are facing upwards, downwards, or horizontally. Maybe in the future, we will see elaborately about fabrics. All my students are well aware of it.

💙    (b) Mark the fabric as per the drafting you have made in your records. Then Cut the fabric by applying the calculations been made already. Check twice before cutting. Since you made everything ready cutting part will take less time.

💙  (c) Additionally, you should always save some fabric out of any dress you make. Even a quarter meter you save can help you to make a wonderful patch, piping in your next outfit, and can convert a normal dress to a Designer suit. Just by adding a small contrast bit to the dress, you can earn a good amount of charges whether on selling or stitching.

Step No. 4

💙   Stitching the fabric you cut, check the measurements, and execute the designs you have decided to make by proper order. If you follow the order, stitching will consume very less time. And don't forget to adopt smart finishing or stitching techniques from your Coach because finishing plays a vital role in the final look of the garment. Neat Finishing will give you enough satisfaction and make the customer repeat again and again to you.

💙    I remember an incident with you. Once I was admiring the finishing of a blouse given by a customer as a measurement blouse for her new blouse. I called my tailor and told her "see the finishing. excellent right?" She came near and turned the blouse and showed the inner side where are label was been attached. Then she said, "See the label, it was made in our boutique a few months back". Many of many our customers loved our boutique not only for fitting but also for finishing.

Step No. 5

💙    The most important step is having some expert clear your fitting issues, answer your queries, share her/his experience to better your work, and suggest buying fabrics related to your garment and designs you wish to make. Because women's body is different from one another so common ideas and solutions won't work. That's why we are not happy with ready-made garments available in the market and outfits made by tailors.

💙 Just by learning cutting and stitching, you can never create wonders. Unless you have someone to clear your personalized fitting issues you will always be a beginner. We always had teachers for everything we wished to learn, in the middle when social media came into existence we forgot the secret of excellence.

Most of the social media videos include only the 4th & 5th steps (Cutting & Stitching) so that nobody learns like a professional or stitches like an expert. If you wish to know more go through this link. Can I learn Sewing from Youtubers?

My Dad's ways of using Leftover Fabrics

    Dear Angel.. 💝💝

👌 Today I am going to share the interesting ways of utilizing the leftover fabrics that my father did in my childhood. Every word comes with tears and a smile. Thank you readers for giving me this opportunity to remember his extraordinary works. Hope you will get an end number of ideas to make use of the remaining cloth bits.

My Sewing Journey with my DAD💝 - My Dad's way of using Leftover Fabrics

👌 Hope you enjoyed my last post with my dad. When I was in my early school days my dad stitched all our uniforms. Along with his business, he had sewing as his part-time job. As I know, he liked it the most. He asked my mom to learn from him but my mom refused it stubbornly. It was a surprise to me why she denied the offer from my father. After some years I asked her why she refused. Then she told me my father is very strict about studies. In my pre-school days, he used to shout at me and even beat me if I don't do my mathematics calculations well.

👌  That time my mom used to cry for me because she knew that she can't stop my dad in that particular activity. My dad strongly believed that only studies can help a person to grow in his or her life. Because of him, I was a Super student in my school & college days. I started winning sports and stage competitions in my childhood itself. But always he demanded more from me. He was never satisfied with my results. If I got 2nd rank he demanded 1st rank. If I got 1st rank he demanded more marks.

👌   Coming back to the topic, since he was doing other dresses there would be a lot of leftover fabrics in our home. We never bought pillows from outside. All the pillows in our home are made from remaining cloth and all are pure cotton pillows. I even remember even if he goes to his hometown he used to stitch 1 or 2 and take them with him. To wonder he made a complete 5 feet sofa bed with leftover fabrics that nobody can identify. Even he brought 2  pillows to my home too. Also, he loves to make Pillow covers, sofa covers, and screens by joining the cloth bits.

👌  I can recall the dusters I used to take to my school made by him. The tiny Cushions he made and fixed in the cycle carriers for his grandsons. Stool Cushions for my tailors at our Boutique to reduce the heat since they sit and stitch for long hours. The raincoats he made using thick Polythene covers, a number of cloth carry bags and room curtains with multiple attachments. He used to present others with mix & match pillow covers. My close friend and mother-in-law often remember the love he had for his family and beloved people.

👌  For most of his life, we financially struggled that he couldn't even buy us dresses to wear at home. So he developed the skill of using cloth bits and made skirts for me on the leftover fabrics from the dresses he made for others. But fortunately, I loved those skirts and fell in love with them even now my favorite outfit is the printed skirts. Mine is better when compared to my brother's. At least he used a single fabric to stitch my half skirts, for my brother he use at least 3 different fabrics to make one shirt.

👌   Many of the shirts my brother was wearing would be like, Collar would be on one fabric, sleeves and body parts would be of another 2 different fabrics. Sometimes the back body part would be on 4th fabric. Many people made fun of him but he never cared. He too loved those shirts.  Even for his son, my dad made many 3/4 pants out of the leftover fabrics from my Kurti and bottoms. He didn't care about whether its men's or women's fabric. The only thing he bothered was, what he could make out of it. He made beautiful hats, matching the trousers he made.

👌   He made dozen wonderful baby nappies for my younger son with beautiful piping. He copied that from a set I bought online a month before. Baby towels, Kerchiefs, Lunch towels, Sewing Machine covers, Grinder covers, Bed covers, whatnot. Whatever he saw, his hands stitched them. Today there are a lot of DIY videos on social media but I saw those or more than that practically from my father without any advertisement.

👌   Now I can imagine how much he loved this skill and spent most of his time executing what ran through his mind. How much money did he save for our family? He tried everything he admired. He presented to everyone something he made by himself. In the whole world, his heart-touching thing was this Sewing Skill. He expressed his love to others by this skill only.

👌  There is a lot to share about him and my Sewing Journey with him. Maybe in upcoming Blogs, I will do, which in turn will help you people, to get some ideas and to develop love towards this skill. I believe I am not boring you.

Today's Lessons:

      1. If you are creative enough, your life will be colorful, and meaningful, and also keeps you occupied whatever your age is.

   2. Knowing sewing not only saves your tailoring bills but also makes your home beautiful and brings smiles to many faces.

       3. Sewing doesn't have any limitations that you can only do this or that.

      4. If you know sewing, and make something out by yourself and gift somebody that would be the precious gift than anything bought outside.

       5. Even your job or business may leave you helpless but not Sewing Skills.

      6. Even the left out fabric cost has also been added to the fabric price, you pay. So make use of every bit.

       7. If everybody started to use the leftover fabrics then definitely we can reduce plastic usage and avoid tons of waste being dumped into the environment.

      8. Carry bags, pouches, and many more products made out of fabrics that are reusable, washable, user friendly, and skin-friendly.

       9. Self Help groups and individuals who don't have the investment to start any business, can collect the leftover fabrics from nearby tailoring shops and can produce excellent reusable products without any cost.

       10. Because of these advantages only Sewing Skill stands before any skill in the world on self-help skills. Always teach this skill to the next generation even if they are going to be India's first Citizens.

Can I learn Sewing from Youtubers?

 Dear Angel.. 💖

I welcome you to my Blog with my whole Heart💝 Today I am going to share a secret to learn Sewing faster and better in the Category of Do's & Don'ts.

Can I learn Sewing from Youtubers?

👉 Yes of course you can. Because tons of designs can be found on YouTube which you can find nowhere. But definitely not at the initial stage, at the beginner level, or even if you want to be a professional. Youtubers put a lot of effort to entertain people and educate them. But unfortunately, the system adopted to educate the viewers on Sewing is almost incomplete. If I can explain a little bit more about this then you can understand better.

👉  Learning a garment includes 5 steps which I am going to reveal on Friday on Do's Category. Anyone who follows those 5 steps can develop her/himself as a professional in a very short period. Before that, we should understand a few limitations that YouTube learning has. Let us see some challenges in learning through Social media.

Challenge No. 1

👉  To learn a garment completely we need at least 1 to 3 hours of teaching on a video basis what we follow in our Academy. Does anyone have the habit of watching that kind of lengthy video on YouTube? Have you ever watched it? So mostly very short videos are been made by Youtubers to attract more views and Subscribers which will not work anyway.

Challenge No. 2

👉 Dresses on YouTube are mostly made for the person who creates the video, not for your size. It is not possible to make it for all the sizes of viewers. Nobody can have any idea about who watches. Since women's size is complicated, the experienced tailors are struggling to satisfy their customers even though they are doing customized sewing. Then how it is possible to learn from assumptions.

Challenge No. 3

👉  Even though experts are there and produce excellent results on YouTube, they also won't reveal the secret of a perfect outfit for free. From my observation, many of the other video makers are not professionals. They just copy from top channels and reproduce it in their channels. That's why if a trend gets started in one channel you can see that particular garment in every channel. You can observe by the date of the garment being posted on different Channels.

Challenge No. 4

👉  Nowadays people are addicted to reels and short videos, and video makers find it very difficult in producing quality videos. They are forced to cut their efforts into small videos to sustain subscribers which in turn produce very lower results. In the future, it may turn into slide shows, which may end in zero results but still, we will be spending hours & hours but not learning anything.

Challenge No. 5

👉 If you want to excel in particular art you should follow only one Guru or Coach in the budding stage who is an expert and can fulfill all your knowledge demands. But in Social media videos, there are a lot of people who teach you various methods, and finally, you get confused about which method you should follow. After scrolling for hours you drop the idea of making anything and leave the platform without learning. In the Sewing field, every person has their own formulas and methods.

Challenge No. 6

👉 Even if you manage to learn something and make a garment definitely you need some fine-tuning on your work or to get clarity on your doubts and to clear fitting issues. But nobody is there to answer your queries. You would be posting your doubt in the comments box and waiting for the answer. But mostly there won't be any reply. Please understand you are not paying them anyway directly so they are not responsible to answer any of your queries and problems you face in learning the garment. A Coach will answer all your queries because she/he is been paid by you so that is answerable & 100 percent responsible for your better output.

Challenge No. 7

👉 As  I said most of them are not professionals, if you happen to follow that kind and make a garment, and fail to produce the desired result, automatically you stop doing more. The purpose you spend your valuable time on that glorious platform will not be achieved. Even if they do also, I have seen many who introduced them as good sewers by following sewing channels for years are not able to fulfill the expectation that a normal sewer should have.

Solutions & Today's Lessons:

💖     1. Refer to Quality YouTube channels at an advanced level to know, more and more patterns, not at the stage of learning Fundamentals. Because in the initial stage you need more guidance and step-by-step handholding support. More to that, learning sewing requires more tips & techniques.

💖     2. Never waste your precious time by scrolling up & down. In my opinion, if anyone values their time will choose an expert, start learning and produce wonderful results. If clever enough will start monetizing as soon as possible and earn back their investment. To me learning from the right people is not an expense, it's an investment. This applies to any Skill you wish to learn for yourself or to teach your kids.

💖    3. Never be alone while learning an art. Be in a community where you will gain more knowledge through others' experiences, and mistakes. Particularly if you wish to do business learn this skill from a professional not from the teacher or the one who copies.

💖 4. Also, remember free stuff never works. Always there is a price for everything. If it has the effect of working, there would be lakhs of quality tailors and designers around us. If we are not ready to value others' knowledge they gained for years then our output would also not be at the level for recognition.

💖  Whatever I share with my students and my kids to excel in their life I share with you people. It's all my personal opinion based on all these years of experience. Whatever I learned for free didn't work. More than 10 Skills I learned. Whichever I put my time and money into is paying me back in many folds. So I am happily sharing that my students never go behind freebies and in turn, they are also well paid.

💖   Share your opinion in Comments Box. These are proven techniques and tips. Enjoy Learning.. Happy Sewing.. Keep Rocking.. Keep Moving.. See you tomorrow with the continuation of My Unrevealed Sewing journey with my DAD..💖

My Unrevealed Sewing Journey with my DAD💝

   Dear Angel.. 💝💝

I welcome you to my Blog with my whole Heart💝💝 Today I am going to share the secret journey which I never shared with anyone even my close friends.

My Sewing Journey with my DAD💝

👸Before you learn anything from me, you should know my Journey which will give you more motivation and confidence. For that, I have to get back at least 38 years. My sewing journey started before my birth without anybody's notice. Many people think that they know my story but truly said NO. They know very little of it. Today I may be the Founder of Online Sewing Academy which gives back the identity of many women, a well-settled Coach but everything started with my dad. I am very much happy to remember him here as a Daughter, a woman Entrepreneur, a Mentor, etc.

👩 While he was in his school days he had an elder friend who had a tailoring shop in his native district of Kanyakumari. Though he is an extraordinary student in his studies, he developed a love for Sewing. On his weekly holidays, he used to spend time at his friend's tailoring shop. Whenever his friend leave the shop for lunch my dad use to remove the stitches in the newly made shirt to see how it had been stitched and before his friend returns he stitch the shirt as it was before.

👩 On seeing his interest in sewing his friend taught him to sew shirts so he can also save some wages. But he never taught him to cut dresses. He asked so many times, but his friend was not ready to teach since most of the world's skilled persons are not interested in passing the skill to anyone other than their family members. So that we lost an end number of treasures and medicines.

👩After completing his ITI Motor Mechanism in the distinction he migrated to Chennai with the help of his elder brother. His thriving towards sewing never stopped. When I was 18 months old he enrolled in a tailoring institute and finished his Tailoring Diploma which was his long-term dream.  Then a brand new Sewing Machine came into our home. Hope you know that Usha Brown table Pedal Machine. Later a Merritt Sewing machine joined.

👩 Whenever our father was not at home, I and my brother sit at the machines and pedaled as though we are riding the bikes. when he returns he would found out what happened before, by seeing the needles been broken. Then he taught us never to pedal the machine without fabric. If have to do so while oiling then he lifts the foot up and pedals. Every time when I give this instruction to my students I remember those days. It was a wonderful memory.

👩  Still more to share. Let me stop here. Will continue on Thursday. Tomorrow we will see about a DON'T to learn Sewing Smarter.  So nobody knows where their roots have been tied up and when it emerges. I may be a graduate in Economics but in a very early stage, a seed has been sown for me to be a Sewer later it is been nourishing as a Trainer too...

👩 Today's Lessons

 1.  Never run the machine without fabric or paper

 2. If so, lift up the foot and do. It will save needles from breaking and the foot from damage. If the needle breaks it may hurt you and even the eyes may be injured very badly.

 3. If you love something and try as much as you can one day you can master it. Never ever give up.

 4. If you love & master some skill, indirectly you pass that to your next generation.

 5. If you have to teach any skill to anyone, teach fully. Never hide secrets. Who knows they may become the best in the field and remember you as their GURU and earn you a lot of blessings and pride. I will share an interesting fact on this in the upcoming days. You will love it.

See you tomorrow with a DON'T to learn Sewing Smarter.

Share your thoughts through comments to serve you better..

Steps to Learn a Garment in a Professional way

Dear Angel..  💝                 Today I am going to share the proper steps to be followed to learn any garment and Stitch like an Expert...
